When we’re out and about and discussing derby, lots of men tell us they’d like to play. We’d like to make that happen, so it’s time to put your money where your mouth is! Men of Herefordshire, we’re going to form Hereford’s first men’s derby team as part of the HRG empire.
Training session will run Mondays 6pm to 7.30pm, starting Monday 14th October, at Weobley High School.
Complete beginners are welcome to the sessions, no previous skating/sporting experience is needed – in fact the only requirement is that you’re over 18. If you can already skate, come along and we’ll teach you derby specific skills.
You’ll start work on the basics of skating, starting, stopping and falling safely. Then move onto full contact, blocking and jamming. Over time you’ll train to increase your speed and power, create strong walls, defend your team mates, hit legally and fight your way through a pack.
All with the aim of competing with Hereford’s first men’s only Roller Derby team.
£5 per session, pay on the day, for all ages 18 and over.
You’ll need your own kit – quad skates, elbow and knee pads, wrist guards, helmet and mouthguard. You’ll ddefinitelyneed your own mouthguard (you can pick a basic one up in most sports shops) but if you’re missing any bits of kit, message us, we can advise you on what to buy (or may be able to lend you some).
If you want to come along, spaces are limited, so get in touch or email hereford.rollergirls@gmail
