Hereford Roller Girls won Community Club of the Year at the 2014 Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards, presented by BBC Hereford & Worcester‘s Elliot Webb at Sixways Stadium on Tuesday 4th November.
HRG was shortlisted alongside Worcester Swimming Club and Ross Juniors FC, having been chosen from nominations for teams across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Captain Becce Turner was also a finalist in the Senior Sportsperson of the Year category. To be shortlisted for two awards is a fantastic achievement for the club, whose A Team The Horror Bulls have only been bouting for two years.
In that time they have rocketed up the European Rankings (currently 74th), debuted in the UKRDA Rankings at 12th, reached the Heartland Series Roller Derby finals – which will be played later in the month – and are unbeaten in 2014.
As Community Club of the Year in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, HRG will represent the two counties at the West Midlands Community Sports Awards at Villa Park on Thursday 27th November, where they are among six finalists from across the region.
