Hereford Roller Girls’ A Team the Horror Bulls welcomed London Rollergirls and Team England star Rogue Runner to guest coach them ahead of their British Roller Derby Championships Regional West Division opening bout on Sunday 1st February.

The Bulls host two bouts at their new home venue, The Hereford Academy; Birmingham Blitz Dames play Nottingham Roller Girls, and the Bulls take on Swansea City Roller Derby’s A team the Slayers.

Rogue Runner’s LRG team is ranked 1st in Europe and 6th in the world. Team England broke records at the World Cup in December to score more points than any other team against the invincible Team USA to take second place and the silver medal. Rogue (real name Jessica McCarroll) runs Fitness Gone Rogue personal training, and HRG welcomed her to coach them and guests from Shrewsbury’s Evolution Rollergirls.

“Like lots of roller derby teams, our coaches often play on the team as well as coach,” said Zoe Butler, Horror Bulls Captain and Head Coach. “Guest coaches offer the team a fantastic opportunity to all train together, and our session with Rogue was fantastic; we learned a lot and picked up some great tips to take into the British Championships!”

The Bulls are currently ranked 83rd (out of 340 teams) in Europe, with the Slayers placed above them at 52nd. The Blitz Dames are ranked at 26th and Nottingham are placed 118th. “This season will be our biggest yet,” said Butler, who founded HRG in 2011 having played for Birmingham’s Central City Rollergirls for 4 years beforehand. “But we’re very excited, we’ve been training very hard and are focused on what’s ahead of us.”

Tickets for Sunday’s bout can be purchased here until 9pm on Friday 30th January, and – unless they sell out – will also be available on the door. Doors open at 12:30pm with the first game starting at 1:30pm and the second at 3:30pm. Join the Facebook event page here!
